Home Learning

All parents are encouraged to contribute to their child's development by providing a rich and varied home life with discussion between adult and child, using books, writing and drawing materials, imaginative and creative toys and a careful selection of television and programmes and use of ICT (including Google Apps and blogging).

The type and amount of homework set by teachers varies depending on the age and ability of the pupil.

Year R

Reading     Parents are encouraged to enjoy books with their children through reading to them, looking at books with them and helping them to recognise information signs etc.
Phonics and Keywords   Children take home phonics sounds books, high frequency reading words and scheme books for them to read to an adult on a weekly basis.
Other activities   Towards the end of Year R, homework activities will also include spellings and number work.

Year 1

Weekly activities    Reading, spellings, keywords and number work.
Home-based learning project   They will also be given a challenge related to their current topic. The children can then choose how to complete this challenge in their own creative way.
Time allocation   Up to 1 hour per week
When?   Given out on a Friday and handed in the following Friday.

Year 2

Weekly activities    Reading, spellings, times tables and a weekly English or Maths activity.
Home-based learning project   They will also be given a challenge related to their current topic. The children can then choose how to complete this challenge in their own creative way.
Time allocation   Up to 1 hour per week
When?   Given out on a Friday and handed in the following Friday.

Year 3/4

Weekly activities    Reading, spellings, times tables and a weekly English or Maths activity.
Home-based learning project   They will also be given a challenge related to their current topic. The children can then choose how to complete this challenge in their own creative way.
Time allocation   Up to 1½ hour per week
When?   Given out on a Monday and handed in the following Monday.

Year 5

Weekly activities    Reading, learn/consolidate spellings and times table facts and a weekly English or Maths activity.
Home-based learning project   They will also be given a challenge related to their current topic. The children can then choose how to complete this challenge in their own creative way.
Time allocation   Up to 2 hour per week
When?   Given out on a Monday and handed in the following Monday.

Year 6

Autumn Term        
Weekly activities    Monday     Maths or English activity due in a week later.
    Wednesday   Spellings (following a spelling rule) tested one week later
Home-based learning project       Two half-termly projects are set.
         
Spring Term        
Weekly activities   Monday   Maths (reflecting the revision topic) due in a week later.
    Wednesday   Spellings (following a spelling rule) tested one week later.
    Friday   Literacy (reading or grammar and punctuation) due in one week later.
         
Summer Term        
Weekly activities until SATs week   Monday   Maths (reflecting the revision topic) due in a week later.
    Wednesday   Spellings (following a spelling rule) tested one week later.
    Friday   Literacy (reading or grammar and punctuation) due in one week later.
Home-based learning project       One half-termly projects are set.
